Samhongsa built Southern Pacific AC-12 Cab-forward

As I mentioned on the general update page when I first made the availability of this model known, it is special for several reasons. First of all, it is arguably the finest modeling effort that Samhongsa ever made with any of their production projects, not many serious modelers or collectors will dispute this assessment. The background of the development and the actual production quantity still remains somewhat unknown, but the quantity was very limited. Since the original introduction I have only seen two of these models in person including this one, they are rarely seen listed for sale and usually trade hands through private arrangements.

I saw this model once prior to accepting the mission of locating a new home for it, that was back when the model was still at the Samhongsa factory in Seoul, Korea. I had been asked to visit the factory with the idea that Samhongsa interested in undertaking some projects on my behalf. It was an unusual experience for sure, I arrived at the factory by chauffeur driven car and when I met with the staff in the executive conference room, the AC-12 was there on display with the display base shown at the bottom of the page. This all took place shortly before the model train production operation at Samhongsa was shut down.

Mr. Se Yong Lee, as the business card shows, was the Executive Managing Director of the train division of Samhongsa for many years. He could very often be seen at show gatherings around the world and he was no stranger to serious brass modelers at shows in the United States. The model was owned by Mr. Lee and is now being sold on behalf of Mr. Lee's wife since his recent passing as a professional courtesy.

The model is in new condition and is fully operational. It does not have the customary trunk type case with it, but has been packed for shipping in a large wood crate that provides maximum protection. The series of photos below illustrates the level of detail that this model has and also the fine condition that the model is in. Additional photos can be provided upon serious inquiry.

I would be happy to help with any questions or inquiries regarding the price for the model including the original display used in the Samhongsa board room..
