3/16/26 - From the outset more than twenty-five years ago, Kohs & Company has faced and dealt with a variety of business challenges, but none more imposing and destructive than the mishandled COVID pandemic and more recently the imposition of unanticipated tariffs. These situations have been faced not only by Kohs & Company, but everyone in the hobby industry, leading to the closing of many related businesses and a shortage of many common and routine components required for model railroad operations. What remains are plans by a handful of businesses looking to produce plastic diesels and 3-D printed resin models which, while interesting, are far from archival quality in the long term.

I have stayed the course awaiting the opportunity to again produce new product utilizing the overseas contacts cultivated during my thirty plus years of travel to Asia to visit and work with the finest builders of brass models. My objective has always been to design, develop and produce the finest and most accurate prototype replicas possible and that has not changed. I am happy to say that a couple of very capable builders remain available and are willing to handle the rebirth of some of my long-paused projects, the only question that remains is what level of support there is for my revived projects going forward.

In the coming weeks, I will be providing more information about which projects will be pursued and the details of the related reservation processes. I will also be seeking feedback to determine the level of support to expect. In the meantime, I have a variety of previously produced Kohs & Company models as well as examples from other importers available that are not likely to be seen available in the future or ever recreated again. 1/01/26 - Happy New Year to all! 2025 has been a difficult year for many in the hobby business and also for everyday participants. Having just started to recover from supply chain issues created by COVID and now the new tariff situation which has been a none factor throughout my involvement in the hobby business, it has been a 'quiet' year for many in the hobby business. The very unfortunate fact is that many suppliers are no longer viable, many dealers, importers and builders are gone for ever.

With all of that said, I am hoping for an early resolution to the tariff question so that financial planning can be accomplished and our production efforts can be restarted. My builders have been patiently waiting for my plans so that old projects can be finished and new production efforts can move ahead. I am firmly committed to continue the effort to produce the finest models possible and to represent the fantastic models I have available for sale to the best my ability with new and more targeted promotion. I continue to hear from long-time clients, many of which are thinking positively about the new year and an economic rebirth following four devastating years.

As always, I am available to answer any questions or deal with concerns, both new and old.
